Curse of the SVG

This enhancement request has been hanging around for while. It seems reasonable on the surface but devil is in the details and the Devil is mean or I’m not very smart. I suspect both are true so I pressed ahead.

This would be a brand new widget for Shoes. It would look a lot like Image but it’s not – you can’t draw other art on top of it and save the result. It won’t do many of the Image transforms. It’s different and really difficult since nobody knows how to create and new widget in Shoes. Obviously I’m close enough to almost working that I can mention it. It’s been a lot work since the last blog post here. Rest assured, 3.3 is moving ahead.

All hat – not much Shoes

That’s what happens when you package a script with your custom Windows ico file that has a 256X256x32 bit icon. The icon is bigger than the .shy and I couldn’t be happier because Shoes can do it now.

In order to test that I had to create some large icons and since the walkabout release needed a new icon, I chose to do the hardest thing first: Create a new icon for Shoes. Federales was only a maintenance release – and we did maintain the hell out it and it’s pretty damn good. Anyway, it needed a new icon and there’s now a wiki post about how to do that. I also updated the Windows installer images which is something I’ve wanted to do for years but never got around too.

I’m very likely to change that Walkabout icon again. I’m not all that happy about the icon above. And then I’ll replace the splash screen animation with something less attention grabbing.

Wiki Changes

I’ve restructured the Wiki. It’s no longer a collection of whatever I thought was important – now it is a “Structured Collection” of what ever I bothered to write about. With menus on the side and sections or chapters in a vaguely coherent order and progression.

The articles in each section still need to be updated and/or consolidated to reflect the current Shoes state but that will be a lot easier to find and fix now.
